Rare Venetian Art Glass Mirror, 1920′ Century
A highly decorative Venetian mirror, of exceptional charm and originality, featuring a rectangular mirrored plate within an elaborate hand-decorated glass frame. The frame is finely ornamented with delicate polychrome and silver-gray painted scenes, scrolling motifs, floral sprays, and chinoiserie-inspired pastoral imagery.
The upper section is crowned by an impressive openwork pierced crest, enriched with stylized flowers, foliage, and painted ornament, flanked by symmetrical shaped elements. The central frieze depicts an idyllic garden landscape with elegant figures, trees, balustrades, a pavilion, and fountains, executed in soft gray and silver tones.
The side panels are similarly embellished with finely painted figurative, architectural, and nautical motifs, surrounded by scrolling Rococo-inspired ornament. Small applied gilt floral rosettes accent the corners and junctions of the frame, adding warmth and contrast to the predominantly silver, white, and gray palette.
The mirror retains a wonderfully sophisticated Venetian decorative aesthetic, combining reflective glass, painted decoration, gilded accents, and theatrical architectural form. A particularly striking statement piece for an 18th-century, Neoclassical, or Parisian interior.
